Rioned Equipment Powers Danaher & Walsh’s Proactive Teams for Anglian Water

Civil engineering company Danaher & Walsh has made a major investment to strengthen its partnership with Anglian Water. As part of this strategy, they have chosen drainage equipment manufacturer Rioned to supply their Risk Identified Sewer Cleaning (RISC) team with a fleet of new vans.

Danaher & Walsh has been working with Anglian Water since 2005 and is a key partner in the Integrated Maintenance and Repair Water Recycling Alliance (IMR WR). This alliance includes the utility company and several partners, all focused on maintaining and repairing sewers, rising mains, and installing SMART technology across the region.

Steve Douglas, RISC Delivery Manager for the IMR WR Alliance, explains: “Our partnership with Anglian Water and the other project partners is very collaborative. We share information to ensure everyone benefits.”

Steve oversees the RISC team, which focuses on high-risk locations prone to historical issues, pollution, or flooding. To prevent these problems, the team conducts thorough inspections using jetting vans equipped with CCTV technology.

If a sewer shows signs of underperformance, high-pressure jetting units are deployed to clean it thoroughly. If any structural defects, like cracks or dropped joints, are detected, the team gathers detailed information for potential repairs.

When choosing new vehicles and equipment for the team, Steve turned to Rioned.

“We previously hired vans from Rioned, with a mix of UrbanJets and CityJets,” he explains. “Using these in comparison to jetters from other companies we realised this was the level of machine that we needed going forward.”

Steve also gathered feedback from other teams using Rioned equipment within the IMR WR RISC teams. “Around 75% of our teams use Rioned equipment, so I asked them for their thoughts. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive — Rioned offers the best tools for effective pipe cleaning.”

The three new van conversions have been fitted with Rioned’s UrbanJet machines, which are compact but powerful jetters with a pump capacity of 3000psi at 10gpm.

“We chose the UrbanJet units rather than the CityJets because they are lightweight and compact. We’re conscious of weight in the vans as it affects fuel consumption and space, so the lighter the better.”

Danaher & Walsh used Rioned’s turnkey van service, which includes vehicle conversions at Rioned’s Thetford base. “We wanted the new vans to resemble the rental vehicles we had been using. The final versions include spray lining, racking, night heaters, a cleaning station, and jetter installation. The guys love the van fit-outs, they’re the envy of other teams.”

In addition to the vans, Danaher & Walsh has invested in new Minicam push camera units for detailed sewer inspections. Each van costs over £70,000, reflecting their commitment to using top-tier equipment to maintain high service standards

The partnership between Rioned and Danaher & Walsh highlights the reliability and performance of Rioned’s technology, and both companies look forward to continuing their successful collaboration.
