Primech Launch In-house Drainage Team with a Turnkey Jetting Vehicle
Primech Building Services recently took the decision to invest in an in-house drainage team for its Facilities Management division. As a relatively new undertaking, they turned to Mark Cox at Rioned UK for help in specifying the most effective turnkey van-pack jetting solution.
Established in 2019 and based in Rochester, Kent, Primech is an M+E Contractor operating throughout London and the South East. In a short space of time, the firm has built an impressive portfolio of mechanical engineering projects across medical, education and commercial sectors, with its Facilities Management division providing ongoing planned and reactive maintenance to support its many clients.
Amy Craig, Service Desk Manager at Primech, explains the rationale behind setting up the new drainage team: “We were looking for a turnkey package to run an in-house drainage team rather than subcontract the bulk of drainage work we do. Ultimately it’s about providing the highest quality across all Primech’s facilities management services, something our clients have come to expect from us.”
“We spend a lot of money on the maintenance fleet and equipping and training our engineers so they can offer the highest level of service. It’s very important to the company.”
Whilst the company has a wealth of facilities management experience, Amy says the process of procuring equipment for a dedicated in-house drainage team was a bit of a step into the unknown:
“We’d looked online at a range of manufacturers and spoken with businesses we work with, who advised that we either opt for a cheaper jetter package or buy a small tanker. When it came to making a decision, we liked what Mark Cox (Rioned Sales Director) had to say about the equipment and what we needed.”
Rioned provided Primech with a turnkey package that was installed in the pre-purchased van. The package included the installation of the latest CityJet 3000psi @ 16gpm diesel jetter. The Stage V emissions-compliant unit includes a 180° pivoting hose reel for ease of access to drain inlets and is fitted with an eControl Touch machine management system for improved water and fuel efficiency.
“The service from Rioned was great and we’re overjoyed with the van,” says Amy. “To be honest, we weren’t entirely sure what would arrive but we’ve all been impressed.”
The technical team at Rioned UK worked on the van conversion, which included water-proof spray lining the interior and the installation of a bulkhead partition, racking and shelving systems, a DC to AC inverter, UV lighting, first aid and hot wash station and Chapter 8 chevron signage. A range of ancillary equipment was also supplied, including HandMatic and AllRound+ drum cable machines, a max probe CCTV camera, drain rod, cones and barriers.
Primech Plumbing and Drainage Engineer James French has used the new kit over the past few months. A time-served plumber by trade, James has experience using several drain jetters but says the new CityJet is a different level.
“I’ve never found drainage work so easy or a jetter that is so simple to operate,” he says. “The jetter eats through grease and mud blockages in no time even at half the maximum PSI. The remote control means we don’t need two men to operate it and the digital screen really helps to see information such as PSI and water levels whilst I’m working.”
Most of the work James does on a daily basis is planned maintenance contracts for schools, retailers, exhibition centres and high-end properties.
“We do a lot of descaling work using a combination of the cable machine (the Rioned AllRound+), the jetter and the CCTV kit. The van fit-out includes a power pack which means I can charge equipment and run the beacons, internal lighting and floodlights without draining the van battery. It’s amazing equipment.”
